2016 Scholarship Recipient christopher whitesell update
Christopher Whitesell, a 2016 MATRA Scholarship Fund recipient has graduated and returned to the tent rental industry! When Chris applied for scholarship funds, he had spent over seven years working in the rental side of the industry with his father at Grand Rental (Greensboro). During that time period, he began by setting up smaller 20 x 20 tents and by the end of his tenure, he had the ability to install 50-wide structure tents.
Chris' father, Mark, a MATRA member, was responsible for encouraging him to apply for the MATRA Scholarship Funds. Chris attended Wingate University, a private institution in North Carolina. As the MATRA award went directly into his college account at Wingate, Chris was able to cover a portion of tuition and books during his academic year. Chris states, "Students today re in need of much more scholarship money than they receive, but every bit helps out in the long run." Chris recommends that any eligible MATRA member apply for these scholarship funds not only to take advantage of a MATRA benefit, but to capitalize on any means necessary to further your education. He is grateful to have been one of MATRA's scholarship fund recipients.
Chris graduated with a degree in Business Management and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. In addition, he was a founding member of Relay for Life at Wingate University.
Currently, Chris is employed as a salesman at Rainier Industries in Statesville, North Carolina. "I started out putting up and taking down tents and now I am on the other side of the business - selling tents!" says Chris. He looks forward to a long career in the tent rental industry. MATRA would like to thank Rainier Industries, a long-standing member of MATRA, for their continued support of our Association and now as an employer of one of MATRA's scholarship recipients!
