For those of you who were unable to attend, this year's Spring Training began on Monday evening where the MATRA Board hosted an informal social gathering with attendees at Brewer's Alley in downtown Frederick, MD. A private space was set aside for our group and we had an opportunity to network, welcome members and non-members, and dine on some great sliders and craft beers.
Losberger De Boer served as our 2018 host for and our sessions began at 9:00 a.m. with a welcome from MATRA President, George Smith, despite a heavy morning snowfall. Dan Hooks, Party Reflections and Liz Davis, PTG Events, then presented Structure 101, a session discussing the difference between frame tents and tent manufacturers, how to properly install them, storage and handling techniques and at what point do you add them to your inventory. Chuck Shipp, Shipp Cleaning Systems spoke on the chemistry of dirt and stains, how to know the right chemical to remove specific stains including mildew, duct tape, grease, and what is involved in routine maintenance of your tents.
During the breaks, all vendors were introduced to the attendees and each provided a short description of their company and services. Attendees interacted with the vendors during lunch and other breaks. We thank them for attending and making themselves available for one-on-one time with everyone stopping by their tables.
For the remainder of the training day, sessions were presented that included Marlin Sensenig, Tents for Rent, discussing the broad variety of manual tools and machines available to the tent installer that increases productivity, reduces labor and overall improves the installation of tents. Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather, the hands-on demonstration of manufacturing of Losberger product had to be postponed but attendees were able to tour the inside facility and warehouse
The day wrapped up earlier than expected as Mother Nature wasn't cooperating with our timeframe and we wanted all attendees to travel safely. However, we trust all left having a great educational experience. Look for information soon on the MATRA website on the location and host for Spring Training 2019.
