Another great Spring Training event in the books! The annual event kicked off with an informal social gathering on Monday, March 25, hosted by the MATRA Board of Directors at Bobby V's Restaurant and Sports Bar, Stamford, CT. A private space was set aside for our growing group to network, welcome manufacturer and rental company members, and dine on some great tailgating options and open bar. Event sponsors included Aggreko Event Services, Green Monster Manufacturing, Losberger DeBoer and Special events Tent & Party Rental.
Stamford Tent & Event Services served as our host for the main event on Tuesday, March 26. Attendees gathered in a tent that transformed the Stamford Tent loading dock into a welcoming meeting room. Spring Training 2019 began at 9:00 a.m. with a welcome to approximately 120 attendees from MATRA President, George Smith. Kyle McLaughlin, Parachute Group, presented the first session entitled, "The Customer Experience" where he addressed needs of the modern consumer, common customer profiles and how to adapt your operation to accomodate their needs and offer a great customer experience. Morning sessions continued with Saroj Bains of Event Labor Works. Saroj tackled installation challenges, using images of typical and extraordinary obstacles in tent installations paired with candid stories and packed with tips for industry professionals.
Attendees had an opportunity to visit table top exhibitors throughout the day during seminar and lunch breaks. We thank them for attending, sharing their knowledge and supporting Spring Training!
Afternoon sessions started with a talk by Bobby Bradley, Texas Entertainment Group, on hiring and onboarding. Bobby's presentation addressed the industry-wide struggle with seasonality, retention and engagement by offering strategies for the stages of candidate assessment, hiring and training. Dan Gombos, Shindig Lighting, closed our education day with an informative session on tent lighting. The presentation navigated lighting product options, safe rigging practices and power planning tailored to the tent rental industry.
Steve Frost and his Stamford Team conducted attendee tours throughout the day of the Stamford Tent & Event Services office and 72,000 square foot warehouse. Guests were treated to a look at the operation, storage solutions and product maintenance. Our group is grateful to the team at Stamford Tent for opening their doors and providing a home for this annual event.
The event concluded at around 3:30 p.m. An energized group of new and old friends departed informed and inspired. Look for information soon on the MATRA website on the location and host for Spring Training 2020!
